Becoming A Welder

Bria Sativa Aguayo​ is a certified welder and whether it’s MIG, stick, or TIG she can weld it. She is on the local executive board of the American Welding Society (AWS) and is dedicated to educating people about the benefits and opportunities in welding. Being a woman welder, Bria is especially excited to get more women welding since they make less than 5% of welders. Bria is an example of the fact that women usually make great welders!

Intro to MIG Welding: Safety and Basics

This four hour course covers the fundamentals of preparing and joining stock metal with MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding.
Students will get hands on experience using an angle grinder for steel prep, and a MIG welder to create vairous joints. In addition students will learn proper safety and methods for tool setup, use, and breakdown.

Advanced MIG Welding

This five hour course covers advanced techniques for preparing and joining stock metal with MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding for projects.
Students will get hands on experience using an angle grinder for steel prep, metal bandsaw for cutting metal stock, a MIG welder to create a welded cube and finishing. In addition students will learn proper safety and methods for tool setup, use, and breakdown.

Intro to TIG Welding: Safety and Basics

In this 4 hour course students will learn the basics and safety of TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) Welding.
Students will learn the basics of cutting, welding, its application, and safety. This class will cover angle grinding, cutting with a bandsaw, basic info on types of welding and welding machines. Students will be practicing on mild steel and making a cube to gain some competence in TIG welding. TIG applications and welding different types of metal will be discussed.
